Celebrating Financial Literacy: People Driven Credit Union and FHLBank Indianapolis Award Scholarships
At People Driven Credit Union, we believe in empowering our community through education and financial literacy. We are thrilled to announce that the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBank Indianapolis) has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships through its Money Masters Scholarship Program for 2024, supporting students across Indiana and Michigan.
Promoting Financial Literacy Among Youth
More than 70 students received scholarships this year, with People Driven Credit Union proudly sponsoring nine scholarship recipients in collaboration with the Rhonda Walker Foundation in Detroit. The Money Masters Scholarship Program, launched in 2023, aims to break down financial literacy barriers and promote best practices in money management among college-bound students and rising seniors.
Partnering for Success
The scholarships are made possible through partnerships between FHLBank Indianapolis, member institutions, and community organizations. Notable partners include:
- Mercantile Bank of Indiana and Grand Valley State University TRIO Program: 22 scholarships awarded in Grand Rapids, MI.
- Elements Credit Union and Center for Leadership Development: 25 scholarships awarded in Indianapolis, IN.

- Merchants Bank and Providence Cristo Rey High School: 15 scholarships awarded in Indianapolis, IN.
Scholarships Awarded for 2024 are a Commitment to Education and Community
Marchelle Costa, AVP, Associate Director, HR-Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at FHLBank Indianapolis, emphasized the importance of financial literacy in achieving homeownership and financial independence. “Core to our mission is supporting homeownership for as many people as possible in our district. We assessed the barriers that prevent people from achieving that, and one of them is financial literacy,” Costa said.
Deron Streitenberger, EVP and Chief Business Operations Officer at FHLBank Indianapolis, highlighted the program’s collaborative nature. “Our Money Masters program is an innovative way to get more engaged in financial literacy and the communities the Bank serves. These are the same communities our members serve, so it’s a win-win for everyone,” Streitenberger noted.
Looking Ahead
With over 400 students receiving financial education in 2024, FHLBank Indianapolis is eager to expand the program. “We’re just getting started,” Costa remarked. “We’re hoping our members will sign up and continue to support the program. And that we can double those numbers in 2025.”
People Driven Credit Union is proud to be part of this initiative, which supports the financial education of the next generation of leaders. For more information about the Money Masters Scholarship Program or to get involved, please contact Marchelle Costa at mcosta@fhlbi.com.
