Our Story

1928: The Beginning

Founded as the Detroit Federal Employees Credit Union (DFECU), People Driven Credit Union (PDCU) began its journey in 1928 to serve federal employees in the Detroit area and their families. This member-owned, full-service financial institution was built on mutual support and financial empowerment principles.

1958: MPG Credit Union is Born

In 1958, a dedicated group of Ford Proving Ground employees established MPG Credit Union (MPGCU), offering financial services to all proving ground employees and their families.

2001: Community Expansion

MPG Credit Union expanded to a community charter, opening a branch in Romeo at 33 Mile and Van Dyke. This pivotal change also saw the credit union rebrand as MPG Community Credit Union (MPGCCU), with its original branch at the Proving Grounds remaining in operation.

2003: Broadening Horizons

In 2003, the Detroit Federal Employees Credit Union charter expanded to include any government or public school district employee in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties, plus members of their families.

2005: Embracing Community

In 2005, Detroit Federal Employees Credit Union changed its name to Peoples Trust Credit Union (PTCU). It expanded membership eligibility to include people who live, work, or worship in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.

2008: A New Era

Peoples Trust Credit Union merged with Automotive Federal Credit Union (AFCU). Changed name to Community Driven Credit Union (CDCU).

2014: Becoming People Driven Credit Union

In 2014, MPG Community Credit Union merged with Community Driven Credit Union. We changed our name to People Driven Credit Union as part of this merger. At that time, we expanded our membership to include people who live, work, or worship in Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties.

2018: A Move to Downtown Romeo

The Romeo branch relocated from 33 Mile Rd to the heart of downtown Romeo, enhancing accessibility and service to the local community.

2023: Statewide Service

In 2023, People Driven Credit Union merged with Community Alliance Credit Union (CACU) and expanded our membership again to include people who live, work, or pray in Michigan. We now serve over 26,000 members, all valued credit union owners. As a non-profit, cooperatively based organization, we offer our members an appealing array of low-cost financial services.
